This is the car that was made famous by Ronnie and the Dayton’s in 1964. “Little GTO” the song, hit number 4 on the Top Pop Billboard in August 1964 and helped fuel the remarkable surge in the GTO’S popularity.
Offered with “Three Deuce and a four speed …and a three eighty nine”, this car turned 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds and ran the quarter mile in 14.5 seconds @ 100 mph.
Nineteen sixty four, saw Pontiac Dealers sell out their entire production of 32,450 GTO’s in record time. In 1965, after the public learned what Pontiac had available right off the Pontiac Dealers showroom floor, sales reached 75,352 units and this momentum continued into 1966 with 96,941 GTO’s produced and sold. It is argued that the Pontiac GTO, was the birth of the Muscle Car Era in the early 60’s that continued into the 1970’s.
